What role do quests play in World of Warcraft?
Quests are a major portion of the solo and small-group content in World of Warcraft. Players will experience the lore and story of World of Warcraft by doing quests all across Azeroth. In addition to their content and challenges, quests give rewards of experience, gold, and items.

Where do I get quests?
You can obtain quests from questgivers around the world. These non-player characters can be easily identified by the golden exclamation marks over their heads. Speaking to a questgiver will show you what quests they have to offer.

How do I complete quests?
Each quest has its own objectives, which the questgiver will describe to you and which also can be found in your quest log. These requirements vary widely, but most fall under several basic mechanics. The most common type ask you to kill a set amount of monsters or collect special quest items. There are also escort quests, boss kill quests, delivery quests, and many other types. You can view the objectives for each quest in your quest log.

What do the different colors of text in the quest log represent?
The color of the quest name in your quest log represents the quest's relative level compared to yours. Quests in yellow are near your level in difficulty, so they will generally be a reasonable but not overwhelming challenge for you. Orange quests are somewhat more difficult, red quests are significantly tougher, green quests are somewhat easier, and grey quests are significantly easier.

What rewards do I get for completing quests?
The rewards for a quest can include experience, gold, and items. The amount of gold and experience depends on the level of the quest as well as its level relative to yours. Similarly, the quality of the item given as a reward will be in proportion to the level of the quest. Many times you will be able to choose your item from among several offered. At maximum level, the amount of experience you would have received is converted into additional gold. Lastly, many quests also increase your reputation with the questgiver's faction.

Can I do quests while in a group?
Yes, the fundamental design of quests in World of Warcraft includes the ability to complete them with a group. If your groupmates don't have the quest, many times you can share the quest with them by pushing the appropriate button on your quest log. Many quests, particularly quests where you have to defeat enemies, can go by much faster in a group as everyone in the group will get credit for every kill. In addition, there are many quests that are marked as "Group" or "Dungeon," meaning that a small group of players is recommended to complete them. These quests often ask you to fight a powerful boss-type enemy.

Does each member of a group receive a quest reward if they participate in completing a quest?
Each member of the group that completes the quest will receive his or her own quest reward.

Can I do a given quest more than once?
Normally, quests can only be completed once by a character. However, there are special repeatable quests in the game. These repeatable quests are often associated with a particular reputation in the game, as a means to repeatedly raise that reputation. Repeatable quest NPCs will display a blue question mark over their heads instead of a yellow one.

Do I have to finish a quest in one sitting, and/or immediately after accepting them?
The majority of quests can be done at your convenience. If a quest has multiple objectives, you can do them whenever you like as long as the quest remains in your quest log. The exceptions to this are the few timed quests in the world, which allow only a limited amount of time to complete them. These timed quests will have some mention of this limit in the quest log.

Can I do more than one quest at a time?
Yes, you can have up to 25 quests in your quest log, and multiple quests can be progressed in simultaneously if the quest objectives allow. Often, you will be offered multiple quests that take place in the same area. It's a good idea to try to do these quests simultaneously for more efficient use of time.

What happens when a player fails to complete a quest? Is there an option to try that quest again?
If you fail to complete a quest it will display with a "Failed" tag in your quest log. In this case, you can abandon the quest and pick it up again from the questgiver.

Why can't I share some quests with my group?
When a quest can't be shared, it is usually for one of two reasons. Either the quest requires special items given by the questgiver at the time of accepting the quest (in which case the "Share Quest" button is inactive), or your groupmate is ineligible for the quest. Ineligibility can be for a variety of reasons, including not being high enough level, not having enough reputation with the appropriate faction, having already completed the quest, and not having completed previous quests in the chain.

Are there very large, or continuous, quests that require many steps to fully complete?
Yes. There are small multipart quests, which you might be able to finish in several days, and epic quests that may take much longer to complete.

Are there quests that take you to enemy towns and/or cities?
Yes, there are quests in the game that take you into enemy towns.

What are raid quests?
These special quests, which have the "Raid" designation in your quest log, require raid groups of over five players to complete. Some raid quests are even designed for 40 players! Raid quests are few in number but the rewards are extremely powerful. Note that if a quest is not labeled a raid quest, it cannot be completed while in a raid.
