With holidays, Battleground weekends, scheduled raids, and more, every player could use a helping hand keeping track of all the activities in the worlds of Azeroth and Outland – say, perhaps, an interactive calendar? The player calendar is a brand-new feature introduced with the Echoes of Doom patch. It lets you view and keep track of world events such as the aforementioned holidays, and organize your own events with friends and guildmates – all in an intuitive, user-friendly interface. Calendar BasicsTo open the calendar interface, click on the new calendar button (displaying the current date) located on the top right of the minimap. The default view of the calendar displays the current month with the current day highlighted. The top right of the window has a drop-down menu where you can select from various filters. These filters include recurrent categories such as Battleground holidays, the Darkmoon Faire, active raid lockouts, and raid resets. If you find that your view contains too many of one or more of these categories of information, you can toggle them off by unselecting them from this menu. Click on an event to open up its informational panel, which displays the relevant information for that event. If the event is a recurrent global event such as a Battleground holiday, the informational panel will simply display a brief description of the event. Opening player-created events brings up a different panel with many more options and types of information (detailed below). Creating an EventYou can create your own player events with the calendar. Set up small events like a dungeon run, or larger events such as a raid or guild meeting. To create an event, right-click any current or upcoming calendar date. The standard option, "Create Event," will always be available, and another option, "Create Announcement," will also be available if you are a member of a guild and have the proper permissions. When "Create Event" is selected, a new event window will pop up to the right of the main calendar window. An empty field for the event's name is the default selection. Along with the name field, you can designate the starting time, the category, and a description of the event. The available categories for events are Raid, Dungeon, PvP, Meeting, and Other. These categories help the people you invite quickly identify the nature of the event (with Other being a catchall category), and the categories are accompanied by custom background art. For raids and dungeons, this art is specifically matched to the individual raid or dungeon. Below these fields is a list of the invitees and their status. If you have just created the event, the field will be empty. Enter the name of a player you wish to invite, and then hit the "Invite" button. Repeat this process until your list is complete, and then press the "Create" button. Your event will appear on the calendar's date entry, and the invitees will immediately receive notification of the event. There is an additional filter that allows you to invite multiple people in your guild or Arena team without manually entering each name. This filter, called "Mass Invite," can be found at the lower left of the main event window. It automatically invites guild members or Arena team members in order to make creating these kinds of events quick and easy. For example, the event creator will be able to automatically invite everyone in his or her guild who is of a certain level (or level range) and of a minimum rank. After accepting, you will be sent to the normal event creation window with the invite panel prepopulated with your invitees. If you are a member of a guild and want to quickly invite everyone in your guild to an event, you should choose the "Create Announcement" option instead. This event type is designed for guild officers (or those in the guild with the proper permission) to invite every member of their guild to a large-scale event, such as a guild meeting, a city raid, or anything else that would lend itself to an entire guild's attendance. It is also intended to be used as a quick and easy raid scheduling method for more informal guilds. There is no additional filtering allowed on this type of event, so make sure you actually want to send this event to everyone in your guild before sending it out. Once created, an event can be duplicated by right-clicking it and selecting "Copy Event," then right-clicking on a new date and selecting "Paste Event." This opens up a new event window and automatically transfers over all the fields except the event time and the lockout settings. The list of invitees (whose status is automatically set to "Invited") is copied as well. Once an event has been copied, it can be pasted repeatedly on different dates. In this manner you can create recurring events, such as a weekly Zul'Aman raid or set of 5v5 Arena matches with the same group of people. Moderating EventsAny player-created event that you have access to has an event user interface panel. This panel displays all the relevant information pertaining to the event, including the name, time, description, and list of invitees with their status. Anyone who has been invited to the event can see this panel, but only the event creator or a moderator can modify it after its creation. On the right side of the invitee list, icons representing the various classes tally the number of invitees of each class who are either Accepted or Confirmed for the event. The status message next to each invitee's name indicates what that player has selected. The available status messages are as follows:
The creator or moderator changes these statuses by right-clicking on an invitee and selecting the desired status for that person. Furthermore, the event creator can right-click a player's name and make that player a moderator for the event. Moderators can do anything the event creator can do in regards to that event, including modify its details and change player statuses. The only power a moderator doesn't have is to remove the original creator from the event. The "Lockout" option prevents non-moderators from further changing their statuses. Responding to Events
When you are invited to a new event, your calendar's time-of-day icon is replaced by a new event alert icon. Clicking on the icon opens your calendar window as normal, but the date of the new event is depicted with a large question mark in order to draw attention to it. Opening the event will bring up its informational panel, including your response options: Accept or Decline. Pressing one or the other will change your status in the invitee list accordingly. You can revisit the event's panel at any time after initially responding to change your status, unless the event has been locked out. Fifteen minutes before an event that you have signed up for, a reminder with the event name appears in your chat window. The invitation process itself can be started at the discretion of the event moderators. If an event has been deleted by a moderator, every invitee will receive a notification of the event's cancelation through in-game mail, and the event itself will disappear from every invitee's calendar. Accessing the Calendar via the ArmoryThe player calendar is also accessible on the Armory. It replicates much of the in-game interface and functionality, including the ability to view recurring and player-created events for the characters you play. In addition, you can respond to invitations to player-created events – which will then take effect in-game. After logging in to the Armory, you can then access the Calendar tab in the profile for each character you play. You can switch between characters via the character selection menu on the top right of the Armory interface. The only calendar functionality that is not available on the Armory is the ability to create events, as that functionality is reserved for the in-game player calendar. Refer to the Armory Calendar FAQ for more details. Online Privacy Policy |
