This page provides tips on how to become a pro at completing achievements. If you're unfamiliar with the achievement system and want to learn the basics, check out the achievements preview and the
achievements FAQ.
The default hotkey to view your achievements window is "Y." If you want to compare another character's achievements to your character's, right-click the other character and select Compare Achievements.

What do you get for completing achievements?
Bragging rights, and that's just the beginning! Completing certain achievements will reward you with special titles or items like pets, tabards, and mounts. Check the details in your achievements window to see which achievements include special rewards. If an achievement has a reward, it will be listed at the bottom of that achievement.
General Tips
- Although most achievements can be earned simply by playing the game, certain achievements will require you to go out of your way to complete them. If you're going after a particularly high achievement score, there are two routes you can take: you can complete a lot of easy achievements that don't yield that many points, or you can focus on complex achievements that are worth a lot more points.
- Money is sometimes a factor in completing achievements, so be prepared to spend some gold. For example, the achievement "My Sack is 'Gigantique'" requires you to buy a large (and expensive!) bag from Haris Pilton.
General Achievements
This category includes freeform achievements that aren't tied to any particular game aspect, such as PvP, PvE, or questing. Because general achievements are so flexible, it's a good idea to work on them while you're trying to complete other, more gameplay-specific achievements. For example, you could earn a few general achievements while completing quest achievements or exploration achievements. You'll be able to complete most of the general achievements on your own, but you'll need a group to complete some of them.
Examples
Going Down?
The goal here is to survive a fall. You cannot use an Engineer's Cloak, the mage spell Slow Fall, or any other abilities or items that slow down your falling speed. If you jump down hills frequently enough, you might complete this achievement without trying too hard. Otherwise, starting from a modest height, practice falling from increasingly high altitudes until you earn the achievement.
The Bread Winner
This goal is to make 10,000 gold from quest rewards. This achievement becomes much easier to complete after you reach the maximum level because then quests will reward you with more gold instead of experience. Try to complete every quest you can to build up your gold tally.
Needy
To earn this achievement, you must win a Need roll by rolling 100 on a superior or better-quality item above level 185. Keep in mind that it's not polite to bid on items you don't need just to get the achievement. Simply keep bidding Need on the items you truly need and will use, and eventually you will get this achievement.
Quests Achievements
You can also earn achievements for completing quests. If you need to find more quests, go to your minimap and change your tracking type so that nearby low-level quests will be displayed on your minimap. This will allow you to scour the world for quests that you may have missed. Low-level quests will give you little to no reward, but completing them might still give you reputation points that can count toward achievements. Often the quests people tend to miss are started by objects that monsters drop.
Examples
The Loremaster
If you complete enough quests in Kalimdor, Northrend, the Eastern Kingdoms, and Outland, you can earn a special title and the Loremaster's Colors tabard. The key to this achievement is to vacuum up every quest you can. You could experience problems if you haven't completed enough quests in an area and you can't find more. If that happens, ask guildmates for help, or look up lists of quests on fansites.
Daily Quests Complete
Daily quests are a great way to earn money, reputation, and achievements. The goal here is to complete 5, 50, 200, 500, or 1,000 daily quests. You can complete up to 25 daily quests per day. Only repeatable daily quests count toward this achievement; normal quests do not. There are plenty of really short and easy daily quests that you can do each day. Even if you complete only a few daily quests per day, eventually you'll be able to earn these achievements.
Exploration Achievements
If you explore all of the major geographical areas in the game, you will earn the title "The Explorer." You can find out what areas you haven't explored yet by clicking the Exploration button in the achievements window and then selecting the area you're exploring (for example, Outland). If you click any of the regions listed there, you will see which sub-zones you're missing. You can even track the achievements so you can see which zones you still need to visit.
Player vs. Player Achievements
If you like the thrill of PvP and love the smell of achievement points in the morning, look no further than PvP achievements! The best way to go about earning these achievements is to get a group of friends together and work toward each achievement as a team. This method is especially effective for achievements that are more strategic in nature.
Examples
City Defender
To earn this achievement, you'll need to kill 50 enemy players in any of your home cities. Join the World Defense channel via /join WorldDefense, monitor for attacks, and then demolish some enemies. You can get credit for kills in a party, so group up and work together to kill enemy players in your cities.
Wrecking Ball
The goal is simple: get 20 killing blows without dying. For this achievement, it's best to position yourself so you're relatively safe and playing in a large group of allied players. Alterac Valley is a good choice because you can hit and run, and you can have the allied players ahead of you soak up damage.
Hot Streak/Hotter Streak/Hot Hot Hot Streak
You'll need to win 10 matches in a row at level 80 to start earning these achievements. To complete the achievements "Hotter Streak" and "Hot Hot Hot Streak," you'll need to accomplish the same feat with a rating above 1800 or 2000, respectively. These achievements are tricky, but good teams should be able to prevail. Teams that win less consistently will either have to get lucky or practice until they succeed.
Dungeons & Raids Achievements
Every dungeon includes at least one achievement. You can earn most of these achievements by defeating dungeon bosses, but there are some exceptions. If you are missing achievements for both a Heroic and a normal version of the same dungeon, just do the Heroic version, and you'll receive credit for both.
Low-Level Dungeons
You can also visit lower-level dungeons for achievements. If your character is at the maximum level, you can completely solo some dungeons, but it's fun to bring along a friend to share in the amusement (and the achievement). You can have a great time going to dungeons that you played a lot in years past and blasting through them with ease.
Professions Achievements
There are only a few achievements for the primary professions, but the secondary professions -- especially Fishing and Cooking -- have a lot of achievements associated with them.
Examples
Cooking: Sous Chef
You need to learn 100 Cooking recipes to earn this achievement. To get more recipes, do some lower-level quests to gather any recipes you might have missed; check the auction house; or ask guildmates for help. Make sure to get a list of all the Cooking recipes and compare it to the list of recipes you know, keeping an eye out for discrepancies. To learn 160 recipes for the Chef de Cuisine achievement, you will need to get all of the Cooking recipes from the Dalaran daily Cooking quest.
Fishing: The Coin Master
The ultimate in Fishing takes place at the Dalaran fountain. You need to collect all of the copper, silver, and gold coins. Each time you get a gold coin, you can throw it back into the fountain to get a special bonus buff that improves your chances to fish up more coins. Make sure that your buff wears out before you throw another gold coin into the fountain. If you're having trouble finding specific coins, try fishing at different times.
Reputation Achievements
Completing reputation achievements can be time consuming, but the odds are good that you've already completed some of them retroactively. Practically all reputation achievements can be completed by increasing your reputation with various factions, so if you're already exalted with some factions, you will automatically unlock the associated achievements. Completing unfinished reputation achievements can reveal cool aspects about the world that you might have missed the previous time you played through, so it's definitely worth spending the time.
Examples
Ambassador of the Alliance/Ambassador of the Horde
If you're exalted with all five of your home factions, you will earn the special title of Ambassador before your name. Your status will count toward the achievements for becoming exalted with a large number of factions, and any race-specific mounts you get will count toward the mount achievements. You can also go into the Alterac Valley battleground and do the turn-in item quests to increase your reputation. Turn in blocks of Storm Crystals to gain additional reputation.
The best tip for quickly increasing your reputation is to do all of the low-level quests, even level-1 quests, for a particular race. These quests are easy to complete, and they will increase your reputation. In addition, it can be fun to see some quests you haven't seen before.
Northrend Vanguard
You can earn this achievement by reaching an exalted reputation with the Argent Crusade, the Wyrmrest Accord, the Kirin Tor, and the Knights of the Ebon Blade. Northrend's daily quests can get you to exalted with many of Northrend's factions. Just make sure you do those daily quests, well, daily.
Some Northrend factions, including the four mentioned above, give you a tabard when you're friendly with them. This tabard allows you to gain reputation with them when you're in any Northrend Heroic dungeon. Make sure you have your tabard on when you visit those dungeons!
World Events Achievements
World events are spread throughout the year, and they include holidays such as the Feast of Winter Veil, Children's Week, Brewfest, and many more. Because many of these events are active for only a few days of the year, timing is everything when it comes to world event achievements. Make sure to check your in-game and Armory calendars, see which achievements you need, and set aside enough time to complete them.
Example
What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been
This meta-achievement is possibly among the most difficult because it requires you to complete a number of achievements from each holiday event. These events are spread throughout the year, so if you've missed one of the required achievements, completing the meta-achievement will take at least a year. The reward, however, makes the time investment worth your while: 50 points and a special Violet Proto-Drake.
