General FAQ

Q: What is "Open Gaming"? *new*
A: Blizzard will be giving players access to highly geared level 60 characters at the show, similar to those used at BlizzCon. The gear the characters are wearing is mainly PvP gear. You will have the entire event realm to yourselves to form raids, join Battlegrounds, or do whatever you want.

Q: Can we still use these accounts during the leveling contest if we do not wish to participate? *new*
A: No. The accounts will be temporarily unavailable during the leveling contest and the Stratholme race.

Q: Will I need to bring my own computer to participate in the Blizzard World of Warcraft tournaments?
A: Yes. The World of Warcraft tournaments are only for the BYOC area. Please visit the CPL Registration page for more information.

Q: How will I be reimbursed for the hotel deal mentioned?
A: At the CPL registration desk, simply present proof of registration from the Gaylord Texan Hotel, such as the documentation you receive upon check-in. The CPL registration desk will perform the reimbursement at that time.

Q: Where will the Blizzard sign-up table be?
A: The Blizzard sign-up table will be located near the BYOC A and the BYOC B areas.

Q: Where can I register for the World of Warcraft events?
A: You can register for the event at the Blizzard sign-up booth at the show.

Q: How do I get my prize?
A: The mice and soundcards will be given to the winners at the show. The computer prizes will be shipped to the winners after the show. Each winner will need to give us his or her complete name and address after the event.

Q: The prize I received is defective. Can I get a replacement?
A: We cannot guarantee the prizes, as they are provided by WSVG and CPL. If your prize is defective, you will need to contact WSVG for further assistance.

Q: Is there an age limit to enter the contests?
A: All contestants must be at least 13 years old at the time of the show. Unfortunately, we cannot accept or allow parental waivers for the contests.

Q: What version of World of Warcraft should I use for these contests?
A: You will be using the most up-to-date retail version.

Q: What realm will be used for the contests?
A: We will be using a special event realm for this contest. You will need to download a new realm list in order to connect to this event realm.

Q: How do I use the new REALMLIST.WTF file?
A: Simply unzip the file into your \World of Warcraft folder. It will prompt you to overwrite the existing file; click "Yes."

Q: Why can't I connect to my normal World of Warcraft realms after using the REALMLIST.WTF I downloaded?
A: In order to revert back to your normal realms, simply remove the REALMLIST.WTF file from the \World of Warcraft folder and launch World of Warcraft again.

Q: Are there any restrictions on UI mods?
A: There are no restrictions on UI mods for these events. However, if any hacks are detected, you will be disqualified from the contest.

Q: I am not sitting in the Blizzard section. May I still participate in these events?
A: Yes. However you should be aware that the CPL has allocated more bandwidth for the Blizzard sections.

Q: Where should I go if I cannot find my seat?
A: Blizzard is not in charge of seating arrangements. If you have questions about your seat, please speak to the CPL staff.

Q: What if I have network or power questions?
A: You will need to speak with the CPL staff about any network or hardware issues you may have.

World of Warcraft -- Fast Leveling Contest

Q: What account will I use?
A: When the contest is ready to start, a Blizzard representative will give you a sticker with your account name and password. This account will be blank and specific to the event realm. You will simply create a new character, log in, and start leveling.

Q: Are there any race or class restrictions?
A: No.

Q: What are the victory conditions?
A: Each player will be given two hours to level his/her character. The players with the highest level and experience points at the end of this time will win.

Q: Am I allowed to complete quests for experience?
A: Yes.

Q: Am I allowed to group?
A: Yes.

Q: What if I group and we all wind up with exactly the same amount of experience?
A: In the event several people in the top 20 have the same level and experience points, each player will roll for position using the in-game /random100 function.

Q: What happens if there's a server crash or other technical problem?
A: If the event realm crashes or has problems, the tournament team may modify the time for leveling once the server comes back online.

Q: What if I disconnect from the server?
A: Log back in and pick up where you left off. We will be using the "/played" function to verify time played on that character.

Q: What if I have to use the restroom/eat?
A: Consider it a pit stop; the contest will not be "paused." The best thing to do is take care of personal matters prior to the contest.

World of Warcraft -- Stratholme Race

Q: What if I do not have a full team of five?
A: There will be other partial teams or single players at the show whom you can fill your team with.

Q: What characters will I have to choose from?
A: The account you will be given offers one character from each class to choose from. They are template characters that have all of the gear, consumables, and class-specific items you will need.

Q: What equipment will be available on these template characters?
A: An items list will be available at www.worldofwarcraft.com/community/tournaments/cpl.html before the CPL event.

Q: Are there any class restrictions for this event?
A: No.

Q: What do my team and I need to do prior to entering the instance?
A: A Blizzard representative will give you and your team their accounts and give you time to set up talents, buy skills, set up hotkeys, etc. After that, we will record the time and have you enter the instance.

Q: When does the clock start?
A: The timer will begin when any member of your party enters the instance. Our GM staff can verify this exact time.

Q: What if my computer crashes?
A: Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the contest and sheer number of people participating, we will not be able to adjust times. You will need to reboot and log back in quickly to rejoin your team in the instance.

Q: What should my team do if we kill the Baron?
A: The best thing to do is to have someone notify a Blizzard representative as you enter the Slaughterhouse before the final battle. and then we will record the time of death. If not, one of our GMs will be able to verify the Baron's time of death for your instance.
